If you think saunas are only for rich and upscale people, then you should do a little more research on it. People often think that saunas are only for the rich because, most of the time, you only see them in upscale health clubs and executive spas. It seems like the only way you can use one is by paying big money upfront. This is actually a myth.
Saunas are for everyone. If you think investing money in a health club or executive club membership is impractical, then you can invest instead in your very own sauna. Building your own sauna isn’t as hard as you would think it would be. It is actually fairly simple.
First thing you have to invest in is heating equipment. There are two types of sauna heating equipment. The first one is the conventional heater, which uses a normal heater, stones and water to heat the air.
The other type of heating equipment is the infrared or far infrared sauna. Instead of heating the air, an IR or FIR sauna heats objects directly. Heating equipment is the first thing you should invest in. These are readily available for purchase online and in spa supply stores.
The second thing you should invest in is your sauna housing. Sauna housings are usually made of wood. Wood traps heat better, plus it smells good when you are inside. You might think it would be hard to get housing for an outside sauna. Actually, it is very easy to build an outside sauna.
You have two options when it comes to an outside sauna housing. You can either build it DIY-style, or you could just purchase a pre-made one from the market.
Before you buy any sauna equipment, find the perfect spot to build it. If you have a big back yard, then any place there would be perfect. Ideally, the sauna should be near you house’s backdoor entrance so that you easy enter your house after a sauna session.
Once you find the perfect spot, invest in heating equipment and then decide on which type of housing you are going to use. You can purchase pre-made wooden sauna housings online or in specialty shops. If you have time on your hands and want to make your own housing, expect to invest on a lot of lumber. After all is done, you’ll have your very own steamroom and bathhouse.
